Medical Science Liaison

A Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a scientifically trained professional who connects pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device companies with the clinical and research community. Typically holding advanced qualifications, MSLs possess deep expertise within defined therapeutic areas. Their primary function is scientific exchange: engaging with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals to discuss clinical data, treatment developments and ongoing research. Unlike commercial representatives, MSLs do not focus on sales but provide balanced, evidence-based information in response to medical enquiries. They support clinical trials through investigator engagement and insight sharing, and they relay external feedback to internal teams such as regulatory and medical affairs. By maintaining credible scientific dialogue, MSLs strengthen research collaboration, inform strategy and ultimately contribute to improved patient care.
